This patient’s teeth had been ‘bonded’ with tooth-colored fillings over 35 years ago to correct the alignment of the four front teeth. We simply removed the old composite material and restored the four front teeth with porcelain veneers to provide a longer term solution to correct the color, alignment, and shape of her front teeth. These new restorations blend harmoniously with the patient’s natural teeth.
This patient was unhappy with her short front teeth. A comprehensive health history and dental examination revealed a previous history of severe acid reflux and vomiting during pregnancy. These acids caused erosion of the enamel on her front teeth. The four front teeth were restored with porcelain crowns/veneers.
This patient opted to not have braces to align the teeth, yet wanted a conservative and affordable solution to improve the color, shape, and alignment of the top front teeth only. We placed porcelain veneers on the four front teeth only.
‘Fear’ and ‘Finances’ were the reason this patient did not seek dental treatment earlier. Spending time at that first dental visit listening to each patient’s concerns is so important. Once we identified this patient’s specific concerns, we worked out a plan to phase dental treatment and took the appropriate measures to ensure her comfort during dental procedures. This patient had her remaining teeth extracted and this ‘temporary’ denture delivered the same day! She will wear these provisional dentures as the gums heal and the bone continues to remodel during the next several months. After a year, we will move forward with new final upper and lower dentures.
