What to Expect with Dentures

What to Expect with Dentures

Choosing dentures is an important step, and it’s natural to have questions about how they will look, feel, and function in your daily life.

At Masters Dentistry, we take a thoughtful approach to denture care, focusing on comfort, fit, and a natural appearance. Every denture is custom-designed with attention to detail, so it feels balanced, functional, and like you.

A Custom, Personalized Process

Dentures are not one-size-fits-all.

Each denture is carefully designed to complement your facial features, support your lips and smile, and create a natural overall appearance. We work closely with skilled dental technicians to ensure the shape, size, and color of your teeth feel right for you.

Try-in appointments allow you to see and feel your denture before it is finalized, so adjustments can be made and you can feel confident in the result.

The Adjustment Period

It’s normal for dentures to feel different at first.

As your mouth adjusts, you may notice:

  • A feeling of fullness or slight movement
  • Mild soreness or pressure in certain areas
  • Changes in speech
  • A learning curve with eating

This adjustment period is expected. With time, most patients adapt well as muscles learn to work with the denture.

We schedule follow-up visits as needed to make small adjustments and improve comfort.

Eating and Speaking with Dentures

Eating and speaking will improve with time and practice.

We typically recommend:

  • Starting with softer foods
  • Taking smaller bites
  • Chewing evenly on both sides

Speech may feel slightly different at first. Reading out loud or practicing conversation can help you adjust more quickly.

How Dentures Change Over Time

Your mouth naturally changes over time, especially after teeth are removed.

As the gums and bone heal and remodel, your denture may begin to feel looser. This is a normal part of the process and is why relines or adjustments are needed over time.

With our on-site lab, many adjustments and relines can be completed efficiently, often the same day.

Are Dentures a Long-Term Solution?

Dentures are a reliable and effective way to replace missing teeth, but they are not identical to natural teeth.

For some patients, dental implants may be recommended to improve stability and support.
